Course description:
Sensory processing disorders in children have repeatedly been making headlines, especially within the past 2 years. Various settings, to include different school programs, homes, and healthcare facilities have trialed creative approaches and interventions. As some information may become lost in translation due to the various types of SPD and individualized needs, there is now a course to help create clarity on how a clinician and/or parent can respond to their kiddo!
In this webinar, you will learn how to recognize and understand the various sensory systems, and how they interact with Sensory Integrative Treatment for children. This course caters to various learning styles and experience levels of parents, clinicians, and supporting healthcare personnel. Therefore, each participant will gain knowledge on how to recognize and understand what Sensory Integration is, as well as how the sensory systems work.
We will discuss methods on task breakdown for functional tasks, using the PEOP (Person, Environment, Occupation, Performance) Model, while highlighting creative ways to address various sensory sensitivities seen in children. For example, you will learn how to identify which sensory system(s) is causing your child to have difficulty with potty training, as well as how to investigate the breakdown of the tasks involved in potty training.
Throughout your participation in the course, you will learn about how to identify and address the sensory needs of your child, how to become aware of sensory system(s) that may not be working correctly, which types of behavior can be elicited by sensory sensitivity, and how to re-direct attention to modulate the adverse behavior and accomplish a functional task. This course is a terrific opportunity for you to enhance your current knowledge of Sensory Integrative Treatment for children, to learn to approach a child with sensory sensitivity and the resulting types of adverse behavior, to gain ideas for the development of treatment interventions, and to acquire the knowledge of task breakdown for various functional tasks.
